My career as a stenographer was inspired by my father, who was a court reporter in New York. As a child, I had other plans at first. I wanted to be tall (I never quite reached that goal), and I wanted to study music. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in music and performed classical piano at Carnegie Hall three times during college. It was around this time that I realized my passionate desire to follow in my father’s footsteps.
While studying full-time in college, I began to attend court reporting school two nights a week. It kept me insanely busy, especially because I was also working part time. But it was worth it in the end. I reported my first deposition just two weeks after graduating, and I’ve been loving my career ever since.
It’s a wonderful feeling to know that you’ve chosen the right career. There is so much uncertainty that makes these big life decisions difficult, but in my 27 years with Connor Reporting, I’ve never regretted anything. This position allows me to challenge myself and gives me the opportunity to take pride in my work.
I am driven by professionalism and a job well done, and my position with Connor Reporting affords me many opportunities for both. I am a realtime stenographic court reporter and work on everything from reporting depositions and labor conventions to captioning. The latter always gives me a true sense of accomplishment because I know my efforts are really helping someone in their life.
I’m a real outdoors person (at least in the warmer weather!). During my time off, you’ll find my husband and me out on the water in our pontoon boat, enjoying the opportunity to relax with friends. When the temperature drops, we’ll both retreat indoors to enjoy a roaring fire and our favorite T.V. shows. Life’s a balancing act between work and play, and it’s a wonderful ride when you’ve got the best of both worlds.
